Former Allman Brothers Band member Johnny Neel has died at the age of 70. Neel joined the southern rock legends before their 1989 20th-anniversary reunion tour, playing keyboards and harmonica while also providing vocals for the group. He co-wrote four songs on the band’s 1990 album, Seven Turns, including the hit single, “Good Clean Fun,” which topped the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart. Neel was also featured on the final studio album by the Allman Brothers Band, 2003’s Hittin’ the Note. Rock legend Warren Haynes paid tribute to his former bandmate Neel, “Aside from being an amazing musician and singer, Johnny was one of the funniest people on the planet — a true character.”

In additional Allman Brothers Band news, the group’s celebrated final concert on October 28th, 2014 at New York City’s Beacon Theatre is being released as a live album to commemorate its 10th anniversary.
